FAQ
What is Straylight?
It’s a game! You play it by putting the Nerd Goggles of your choice on your head and moving your arms around. It’s pretty fun.
When does it come out?
January 31st, 2023
What headsets is it going to be on?
Pretty much all of them! Rift, Rift S, Rift 2 if that ever comes out, Index, Vive, all Windows Media Headsets, Quest, Quest 2, and Playstation VR. The game is a lot of fun with 6DoF and we mostly want it to be fun, so we are not developing for headsets that don’t support this. But the VR space is changing daily, so we will be open to developing for anything that works. Maybe.
What do you actually do in the game?
STRAYLIGHT is built by a team of people that has a deep love of old-school platforming games, and one of our goals with this game was to channel some of those gameplay ideas into VR. With the ability to swing around with true freedom comes the ability to avoid obstacles, pass checkpoints, and die a lot until you get it right.
That said, there are others that claim the game is a much more zen, flowing, trance-y experience. But we think those people just haven’t been properly challenged by spinning death rings yet.
This game looks like (x). Are you ripping them off?
Probably.
You said there’s no movement sickness, but even watching that video made me nauseous.
If you are familiar with VR, you know that a certain percentage of people suffer from motion sickness in VR even if there is no movement involved at all. However, from testing the game extensively (even on VR newbies), our game doesn’t seem to trigger any more VR nausea than typical stand-in-place or teleporting mechanics. I’ve comfortably played STRAYLIGHT for hours, and I’m someone who can’t do Google Earth for more than ten minutes without wanting to die.
How can I get notified about developments?
Just ask, we have a Discord and a mailing list. Or you can check back in here. We’ll update this site with any new news; we are deep into the development and marketing process.
Is THE game name taken from that famous, seminal Cyberpunk novel?
You are absolutely correct; we cribbed our name from Lewis Carrol’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND. You should check it out, it’s metal as F**K.
That song from the trailer is rad, what is it from?
All of our music is being composed by a dude named Rob Kovacs on a vintage 80’s synthesizer because IT MATTERS, DAMMIT. He also travels around under the name 88bit and plays physically impossible versions of old Nintendo chiptunes on the piano; if you’re curious check him out HERE.
